The foot soldiers of the early feminist movement, women who were forced underground to pursue a dangerous game of cat and mouse with an increasingly brutal State.

The period piece revolves around the state of women’s rights in the 1910’s in England. They’re second class citizens, expected to stay in kitchens and homes, relegated as accessories of men or silent bystanders. Carrey Mulligan’s character has been a factory worker since the age of 7, and finds herself wanting more for herself. She sees the guerrilla women throwing bricks through store-front windows and her heart notices that this, an active demand for change, is what she’s been looking for. We see a whole society erupt in action, staving away passivity and the status quo of remaining docile, in the hopes of one day being treated with dignity and respect.
